December

Knitting Pure and Simple Sweater Workshop

E00488:12/ 3, 12/10, 12/17 (Saturdays ) 9-11am $60

For this class, choose one of these 5 classic designs. Top down sweater knitting is fun and easy because there is minimal finishing and you can envision the finished garment even early in the knitting sequence. Similar techniques are used when knitting each of these sweaters. Your fellow students might be making a design different than yours, so you’ll have the additional joy of seeing garments come to life made from different patterns and yarns.

Learn shaping, reading a more complex pattern, knitting in the round, picking up stitches for neckbands, buttonholes.


January

Learn to Knit

1/7, 1/14, 1/21 (Saturdays) 9-11 am $60

Make this lovely cowl while you learn knitting basics: casting on and knitting, purling and reading a pattern, binding off, finishing, and how to use a circular knitting needle.

Materials to purchase before class begins: 1 100gram chunky weight yarn (110 yards) and US10 16” circular knitting needle.


Bird Island Dog Sweater

1/7, 1/14, 1/21 (Saturdays) 3-5 pm $60

Sizes 13.25” to 25.75” chest

Learn a range of intermediate knitting skills including reading a complex pattern, pick up and knit, shaping, knitting with two colors.

Materials to purchase before class begins: Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok 123 yd hanks. Color A 1-3 hanks, Color B 1-2 hank; US8 24” circular and double points; pattern by Sys Freedens


February

Fitten Mittens (Mittens That Fit)

E: 2/4, 2/11, 2/18 (Saturdays) 9-11 am $60

Create a custom fit mitten using any weight yarn on double points. Learn knitting in the round with double pointed needles, casting on with double points, shaping, putting stitches on a holder, reading a complex pattern and determining gauge. *Students should bring a gauge swatch to class.

Materials to purchase before class begins: Yarn (Child S - 50 grams; Child L – 80 grams; Teen to Women – 100 grams; Men – 150 grams), pattern by Nancy Lindberg


21 Color Slouch

E 2/4, 2/11, 2/18 (Saturdays) 3-5 pm $60

Learn to knit in the round, change colors, decrease, read a complex pattern. This wool hat is light enough to wear in any season. Fun to knit and to wear.

Materials to purchase before class begins: 21 Color Slouch Kit (contains all yarn needed and pattern); US 6 double pointed knitting needles, US 6 and US7 16” circular knitting needles

Learn to Knit

Endless Wrap Class

3/4 (Saturday) 3-5 pm $20

Wrap yourself in yarns of lofty textured wool fabric made with Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok

Learn to knit lace, work with a complex fabric, and combined stitch patterns. During this 2 hour class, you’ll learn the three stitch patterns used in the wrap: lace, seed, and stockinette/reverse stockinette and how to use markers when knitting stitch pattern combinations.

Materials to purchase before class begins: US 10.5 24” or 32” circular knitting needle; Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok (123 yards/50 grams) 9 to 12 hanks (available in 21 colors).


Double Knitting: Two Layers at the same time & reversible

3/11 (Saturday) 3-5 pm $20

Double Knitting is form of knitting in which two layers of knitted at the same time. These two layers are interlocked. Double knitting enable you to create unique color work and fabric that is warmer than single layer knitting.

Knit a double knit potholder.

Materials to purchase before class begins: US7 knitting needles and 2 colors of worsted weight yarn (50 g each)


Fixing Knitting Mistakes

3/18 (Saturday) 3-5 pm $20

Learn to fix the most common mistakes in knitting.
Skills:
Unknitting
Picking up dropped stitches
Dropping stitches to correct pattern.

Homework: Bring to class two swatches left on needles:
Swatch 1: 4x4 (22 stitches) swatch left on needle, using solid colored worsted weight yarn, US 8 needles and stockinette stitch (*knit 1 row, purl 1 row* repeat).
Swatch 2: 4x4 (22 stitches) swatch left on needle, using solid colored worsted weight yarn, US 8, garter stitch (knit every row)


Seaming & Finishing

3/25 (Saturday) 3-5 pm $20

Learn to make beautiful, professionally finished seams and to weave in ends so that they are invisible and secure. You can bring swatches or an actual garment that needs these finishing elements.

Skills:
Seaming horizontally and vertically using mattress stitch
Seaming on garter and stockinette stitch
Weaving in ends

Homework:
Knit four swatches: 2 5x5 inch swatches (knit in any fiber type) in stockinette stitch and 2 5x5 inch swatches in garter stitch. Use worsted or DK weight yarn.
OR, bring to class a garment that needs finishing.
Bring to class: Tapestry needles and competed swatches or garment.
