March

Learn to Knit

3/4, 3/11, 3/18 (Saturdays) 9-11 am $60

Make this lovely cowl while you learn knitting basics: casting on and knitting, purling and reading a pattern, binding off, finishing, and how to use a circular knitting needle.

Materials to purchase before class begins: 1 100gram chunky weight yarn (110 yards) and US10 16” circular knitting needle.


Endless Wrap Class

3/4 (Saturday) 3-5 pm $20

Wrap yourself in yarns of lofty textured wool fabric made with Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok

Learn to knit lace, work with a complex fabric, and combined stitch patterns. During this 2 hour class, you’ll learn the three stitch patterns used in the wrap: lace, seed, and stockinette/reverse stockinette and how to use markers when knitting stitch pattern combinations.

Materials to purchase before class begins: US 10.5 24” or 32” circular knitting needle; Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok (123 yards/50 grams) 9 to 12 hanks (available in 21 colors).


Double Knitting: Two Layers at the same time & reversible

3/11 (Saturday) 3-5 pm $20

Double Knitting is form of knitting in which two layers of knitted at the same time. These two layers are interlocked. Double knitting enable you to create unique color work and fabric that is warmer than single layer knitting.

Knit a double knit potholder.

Materials to purchase before class begins: US7 knitting needles and 2 colors of worsted weight yarn (50 g each)


Fixing Knitting Mistakes

3/18 (Saturday) 3-5 pm $20

Learn to fix the most common mistakes in knitting.
Skills:
Unknitting
Picking up dropped stitches
Dropping stitches to correct pattern.

Homework: Bring to class two swatches left on needles:
Swatch 1: 4x4 (22 stitches) swatch left on needle, using solid colored worsted weight yarn, US 8 needles and stockinette stitch (*knit 1 row, purl 1 row* repeat).
Swatch 2: 4x4 (22 stitches) swatch left on needle, using solid colored worsted weight yarn, US 8, garter stitch (knit every row)


Seaming & Finishing

3/25 (Saturday) 3-5 pm $20

Learn to make beautiful, professionally finished seams and to weave in ends so that they are invisible and secure. You can bring swatches or an actual garment that needs these finishing elements.

Skills:
Seaming horizontally and vertically using mattress stitch
Seaming on garter and stockinette stitch
Weaving in ends

Homework:
Knit four swatches: 2 5x5 inch swatches (knit in any fiber type) in stockinette stitch and 2 5x5 inch swatches in garter stitch. Use worsted or DK weight yarn.
OR, bring to class a garment that needs finishing.
Bring to class: Tapestry needles and competed swatches or garment.

Make a beautiful wrap that reminds us of waves rolling onto a long sand beach. You’ll enjoy wearing it year round. Learn lace knitting basics including reading a complex pattern knit over multiple rows and stitches, yarn over, knit two together and how to join yarns.

Materials to purchase before class begins: two hanks Blue Sky Fibers Extra (436 yards aran weight yarn); US 10.5 24” circular knitting needles, tapestry needle, pattern.

Churchmouse Simple Toe-Up Socks

E00502 4/8, 4/15, 4/22 (Saturdays) 3-5 pm $60

Knitting socks toe-up makes it easier to knit the foot to the correct length and to knit the tops without the worry of running out of yarn. You will learn Kitchener stitch, knitting with double pointed needles, elastic cast off, turning a heel and reading a complex pattern.

Materials to purchase before class begins: DK/sport weight yarn (270 to 405 yards), US 3 6inch double pointed needles, tapestry needle, 1 yard smooth waste yarn in same weight

Cookies and Cream Cardi by Blue Sky Fibers & Sys Fredens

Knit this cozy child’s cardigan sweater in 18 months to 4 toddler size. Stop in to see our store model. The sweater is knit bottom up and requires seaming to finish. You’ll learn several intermediate level skills including reading a complex pattern, seaming, setting in sleeves, joining yarn, weaving in ends, button holes and shaping the sleeves.

Materials to purchase before first session: Spud and Chloe Sweater (worsted weight yarn) 480 to 640 yards, US 8 circular or straight knitting needles, tapestry needle and pattern.

Veronica by Julie Weisenberger

E00507 6/7 through 8/23 (Wednesdays) 6-7 pm $10 for each session attended.

“Veronika is light and swingy, not at all fitted yet with snug cuffs. It’s easy to throw-on over almost any outfit, so you’ll find yourself reaching for it again and again.” Stop at IRIS to see our version of Veronika, made with Habu Cotton and Rowan Kidsilk Haze double stranded. You’ll learn several intermediate knitting techniques including short rows, shaping, seaming, pick-up stitches, and reading a complex pattern.

Materials to purchase before first session: 1400 to 1600 yards of yarn working at 5 stitches per inch, US 6 40 inch circular, US5 double points and 16 inch circular for cuffs and neck ribbing, pattern.
